Job Seekers: PLEASE READ

The job hunt can be extraneous and tiresome, not to mention slightly embarrassing. You think, what is wrong with me? Why isn’t the universe on my side? I’m here to tell you; there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re truly where you are for a reason. You may encounter some seasons of hardships, trials, and pain, but I promise you it’s all occurring to help you and benefit your future.

I too have experienced my struggles being that I’m a college graduate that wants to transition into a different field than the degree in which I received. I have applied to so many positions that I can’t even tell you how many at this time. FYI- (make sure to have a list of jobs that you’ve applied for written up in an excel file or word document as well as the dates in which you’ve applied because this will allow you to keep count and note any key information down). I’ve had my fair share of interviews, but I never quite landed the job I wanted and am still actively searching.

The real meaning of this post is to give you some reassurance and positivity to keep going, keep applying and keep up-to-date with job postings-whether it’s directly PMing job recruiters or employees that work within the company that you want to work for. Usually, before you click to connect with someone on LinkedIn, it’ll ask you to “Add a note.” I cannot stress the importance of this because if you want recruiters and hiring managers to know you’re actively searching for a position other than the description that's displayed on your page, you should express your interest to them. Just even going onto the company’s website and reaching out to them on their “contact us” page shows a lot on your part. Employers, job recruiters, and hiring managers love when people try to connect with them directly; it brings them a sense of gratification knowing that you-the candidate shows a deep interest in the company. Although you’re only given 299 characters to sell yourself in the LinkedIn note, try to tailor the message to the best of your ability to where employers will solely want to reach back out to you.

No matter what happens in this life, we will all face trials and hard times so never allow your circumstances to make you feel defeated. You can overcome anything life throws your way, and this too shall pass.

Good luck with your job searching! I know you’ll land your dream job in time.

Blessings,

-Brittney Butler
